Mikey grows jealous of Milos's relationship with Allie. Mikey discovers that, though he is no longer a monster, he retains the ability to morph himself into monstrous creations of his own mind. Allie's body lies in a comatose state waiting for her soul to rejoin it, and she has the choice whether to remain a skinjacker in Everlost or return to her living body. Allie is tempted by the seductive thrill of skinjacking as she masters the skill, until she discovers the shocking truth about skinjackers: skinjackers are not necessarily dead or alive. Along the way, Allie meets three other skinjackers, led by a boy named Milos. Meanwhile, together with Mikey, Allie the Outcast travels home to look for her parents and her own life. With her abilities, Nick begins to devise a plan to confront and defeat Mary. Zinnia has the ability to "rip," breaking the barrier between the living world and Everlost to pull or push things through. Nick follows the rumor of "Zack the Ripper", revealed to be Zinnia, a girl who died in the Civil War while pretending to be a boy. Due to the rumors Mary has spread about the Chocolate Ogre Nick is being overwhelmed by the memory of the chocolate stain on his face, and he is unable to stop the chocolate from spreading over his body. Nick, in control of a train, is heading south to gather his own support against Mary. Traveling in the memory of the Hindenburg, Mary spreads her propaganda and attracts Afterlights to her cause at a frightening speed. Allie sets off with Mikey, who was once the terrifying monster, McGill, in the book Everlost, to find her parents in hopes that she might put her spirit to rest meanwhile, Nick finds himself in a race against time to save the Afterlights from endless entrapment in Everlost by the Sky Witch, Mary Hightower. Again, still not the intended audience, but I’ll read the last book, though I’m not rushing.Everwild continues the stories of Allie and Nick as they pursue separate goals. Overall, I still don’t know if I’d recommend this book. Like the last book, the end caught me off guard and immediately made me want to start the final book. I will admit, though it happened suddenly, it was cute. He was sleazy and the forced romance though it kind of wasn’t with him and Allie felt like an unecessary conflict for the Allie/Mikey romance that was happening. Speaking of the other Skinjackers, they were a group, but I only remember one- Milos. She’d Skinjack someone with other skinjackers, have fun, then talk about the morality of it. I think the whole aspect of Skinjacking was intriguing, but that quickly died down when it got repetitive. His conflict over taking down Mary while still loving her could’ve been so interesting, yet it was boring with all the inner monologues of love.Īnd Mary… I don’t really remember her POV until the end, which then not only shocked me, but made me actually dislike her… Good job. She does make some mistakes, yet it was admirable that she quickly saw the error of her ways and fixed them.Nick’s POV was boring with with the exception of him actually going against Mary. Again, like the last book, Allie’s POV was the most interesting as well as her character. When the loss is too great for either world to bear, Everlost absorbs the shock, like a cushion between the two.”Ī few more questions were answered, though we still don’t know how Everlost came to be and why there’s an age limit. They ripple through the fabric of this world and the next. “Great tragedies have great consequences. Mary is flying around on a blimp, collecting more children for her army. Allie is travelling with Mikey aka The McGill trying to find her parents, while discovering the thrill of Skinjacking. And it was huge page wise.Īfter the events of the last book, Nick the ‘ Chocolate Monster” is hell bent on taking Mary down, but he’s still in love with her, causing a dilemma. So… this was a little better, but it was still a struggle. If you do, then pay sharp attention to the moment you wake, and the moment you fall asleep…For maybe then you will know, without a shadow of a doubt, which is which.” “…And perhaps you can sense, in some small twisting loop of your gut, the convergence of the wrong, of the right, and of the woefully misguided.
